Witham Town manager Garry Kimble knows what a good FA Cup run could mean for his team so is looking for a strong first step on the Road to Wembley this weekend.

Kimble’s team host Ryman League division north rivals Brightlingsea Regent at the Village Glass Stadium in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) and with £1,925 going to the winners in prize money, the Witham boss knows how important it can be.

His side had a good run in last year’s competition, generating good income by reaching the fourth qualifying round and he hopes that his playing budget can get a similar boost again.

Kimble (pictured) said: “The money you can take from the FA Cup can be crucial to the club.

“It’s good prize money.

“The budget is there, but anything that comes through from a cup run is an added bonus as it’s 50/50 between what goes to the club and what comes to me in my budget.

“We’re looking to get through a couple of rounds like we did last year.

“It makes a big difference as it helps everyone at the club.

“So we’re hoping to get through a couple of rounds, but we know it will be hard.

“Brightlingsea Regent have added players to their squad this season, so hopefully we turn up and don’t give it away like we have at times this season.”

However, Witham head into the game without a win to their name this season after Saturday’s 4-4 draw at Bury Town and a 3-1 defeat by Thamesmead Town on Tuesday.
