THE Eddie Curtis Memorial Trophy was played on both Five Lakes courses – the traditional Links course in the morning and the championship Lakes course in the afternoon.

Although the competition started in typical summer conditions, the weather deteriorated to the normal English weather with rain and wind for the rest of the day.

The morning 18 holes provided some very good scoring with Dave Chignell and Clive Taylor coming second with 44 stableford points, beaten by Nigel Popper and Luke Greatrex on the same score with a better back nine to claim first prize.

The afternoon round on the Lakes course started in constant rain, however, the scoring was just as good on the longer course.

Second place went to the local pairing of Ian Kirkman and Danny Owen with 41 points, beaten on countback by another Five Lakes pairing of Mick Gill and Malcolm Shakespeare on the same score.

The overall positions of both morning and afternoon scores, again considering the wet conditions, were also quite high.

Third place went to visitors Neil Anderson and Rob Calvert with a combined score of 84 points.

Second place also went to a visiting pairing of Jamie Jones and Ronnie Wilson with 85.

However, winners of the Eddie Curtis Trophy for 2015 were Dave Morris and Mark Haines with an outstanding 92.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Richard Hardy-King and Graham Doherty, with longest drives won by Dave Chignell and Derek Monaghan.

In wet and windy conditions, 28 seniors battled in what seemed like continuous head-winds on the Links Course for the Monthly Stableford Qualifier.

So challenging were the conditions that only eight players managed to return 30 points and better.

However, John Grant with 35 points met the challenge and took top spot with Ron Colbert, David Barbour and Peter Gee contesting second place on 33.

Results: 1 John Grant 35 pts, 2 Ron Colbert 33 pts ocb, 3 David Barbour 33 pts ocb, 4 Peter Gee 33 pts, 5 Tony Horne 32 pts, 6 Barry Turner 31 pts.

The nearest the pin competition was won by Tony Tyler on the 15th (second shot) and Graham Morris on the 16th.
