Tony Humes says he stands by the decisions he has made as Colchester United manager.

And the U’s boss insists there are plenty of positives to take from the season, despite the club’s lowly league position.

Colchester make their first-ever trip to Fleetwood Town tomorrow, with their League One status hanging in the balance.

The U’s lie four points from safety and defeat at Highbury could relegate them, if other results elsewhere go against them.

However, boss Humes is feeling positive about his team’s chances of getting an important victory.

And despite spending much of the campaign battling the drop, he believes the club is going in the right direction.

Humes said: “We stand by the decisions we’ve made and we do the job as we see fit.

“We make them to try and take the club forward in the direction it’s going.

“We have to believe that we’re doing the right things.

“It’s difficult but that’s where we’re going and there are an awful lot of positives to take this season as well.

“A lot of people just want to concentrate on the negatives but we can’t run the football club that way.

“There’s a direction at the football club and we’re trying to go somewhere that befits us, in terms of what’s available to spend and the revenue.

“We have to make that fit and that’s a definite direction from the top of the football club.

“That’s what we’re given the job to do and that’s how we’re doing it.

“It’s been transitional because of certain things that have happened, in terms of players coming in and going out.

“But we’ve got to find a stability to take the club forward.”
