Catch Your Death is author Ravena Guron’s second Young Adult book and is written from the perspective of three girls; Devi, Jayne and Lizzie, strangers who find themselves stranded at the isolated Bramble Estate in the middle of a snowstorm.

They made their way there separately but end up trapped in the luxurious mansion on the evening of a very tense family dinner. This mansion is home to the Vanforte family – and in the middle of that tense dinner, Emily Vanforte, the head of the household, is murdered. There are only four suspects and the girls must figure out who the killer is – and also survive the night in a house with no power, no WiFi and no way out.

I soon began to empathise with the characters, my personal favourite was Devi, a witty, quick-thinking teenage girl, who says what she thinks and means what she says. Lizzie initially comes across as immature, but readers watch her confidence grow as the book unfolds. Jayne is a more reserved character, who dresses in dark clothes and doesn’t really talk to the other girls much until the mystery really unravels.

One aspect that made the book so amazing was how different the three protagonists were to one another, and how their personalities complimented each other and how their friendship blossomed over the course of the story, and how they all helped each other when they needed it. It is a story as much about friendship as it is about murder.

The book is fast-paced, and just when I thought there couldn’t be any more information added in, a new detail crops up, creating a new layer of the story that gets readers even more hooked. The book is packed with twists you don’t see coming, and is an easy and engrossing read as it gets you gripped on the different characters and their own stories as the main plot develops.

This book was absolutely phenomenal, I would recommend to any Holly Jackson, Karen M. McManus or E. Lockhart fans and is a must read if you love YA thrillers and were a fan of her debut YA book This Book Kills.
