Drummer of popular Colchester band Pet Needs resigns

Pet Needs has announced the resignation of drummer Jack Lock, who is returning to teach sports at a college in Colchester.

In an emotional statement published on the band's Facebook page on March 25, Jack was praised by his friends and band members.

They described him as much more than just a drummer, stressing how he supported the band in more ways than just musically.

The statement reads: “We are still the best of friends and after many heart-to-hearts, we absolutely understand and support his decision to begin living small after such a wild couple of years. 

“Jack joined Pet Needs six months into our journey when he was just 22 years old. Together, we built this band from playing to 20 people in our home town to becoming world touring, Top 20 artists. 

“We can't begin to emphasise the impact Jack has had on Pet Needs in front of and behinds the scenes. He's not just an incredible drummer, he has worked tirelessly as a driver, van packer, merch bagger, video editor... the list goes on.” 

The band has said a final music video featuring Jack will be released soon and a farewell event will be hosted at The Fighting Cocks, in Kingston, on April 7, where the band’s album Intermittent Fast Living will be played in full. 

Fans might have the chance to see Jack back on stage in the future, however, as he is open to returning as stand-in drummer, as he “has asked to be the first port of call”. 

“But for now it's time for him to embrace family life and return to teaching sport, which he loves and is brilliant at," the band added.

“We will share our new line-up in good time, but for now: Jack, our brother - Thanks for everything, man.  

“We hope Ipswich get promoted, you learn to lift even heavier things and most of all: let's have the best ever send-off show. One for the ages.”
