A NEW art exhibition looking at how masculinity and LGBT+ life has changed over the centuries is coming to Colchester this weekend.

David Lock: In-between Us will be at Firstsite from March 23 to June 23 and will be David Lock’s first ever solo public exhibition.

In-between Us will explore how constructs and stereotypes are linked to identity and masculinity while shining a light on Essex’s “previously unknown” LGBT+ history.

David Lock graduated from Goldsmiths with a MA in Fine Art in 2001 and has shown his work both nationally and internationally.

In 2018, Mr Lock’s painting ‘El Muniria’ was selected for the ‘John Moores Painting Prize’ before being acquired by the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool for its permanent collection.

Mr Lock will be showing six new paintings for the first time in public as well as existing paintings, watercolours, and large-scale vinyl collage.

His collection also uses “Roman artefact imagery” to establish an important link to the Roman history of Colchester and Firstsite which is home to the The Berryfield Mosaic dating from around 200AD.

Opening times for the exhibition are 10am to 5pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday, and 10am to 10pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday. It is closed on Monday.
