A QUIRKY café which becomes a bustling cocktail bar by night has been placed on the market as the owner’s “gauge interest” after admitting “times are tough for everybody”.

Family-run café Corner Club, on Leigh’s Broadway, was opened by sisters Phoebe and Maddy Parry in 2018 and has proved a hit since.

However, they have now listed it for sale on Rightmove for £475,000.

The sisters insist no final decision has been made on the future of the business at this stage.

“Times are tough for everybody at the moment,” Maddy said.

“But we’re always busy. We’ve put the café on the market to gauge people’s interest in it.

“Our outdoor terrace is completely full at weekends, but our staff do a great job to make sure everyone’s looked after.”

Maddy, a pastry chef by trade, bakes cakes fresh on-site every day, while also making them to order. She enjoys working with her sister Phoebe, as they “both muck in”, including with weekly cocktail nights.

She added: “We’re a good team. I’m the cake and cocktail queen, while she’s the brains who works behind the scenes and plans our events.”

Regular diner Debbie Jackson, 49, visits the café for a weekly treat after a “crazy” gym session nearby.

She said: “It’s quite trendy, and it’s a nice place to come and chill out. You always get lovely food.

“I really like the menu. They’ve focused on quality, not quantity. There’s not too much choice, but what they’ve got is tasty.”

Corner Club takes its coffee seriously. The café’s baristas regularly visit their supplier for extra training. It even has its own specialist blend, which owner Maddy proclaims is “the best on the Broadway”.

Debbie, of Chalkwell Avenue, added: “I love their coffee. It’s got a really nice flavour.

“Coffee at places like Costa can be really intense at times.”

Debbie also says the café’s “rustic feel” fits in with Leigh’s “independent vibe”.

She added: “There are a lot of places in this style on the Broadway. I really like Leigh because of its independent shops and cafes.”
