A COLCHESTER school showcased their production of a famous children's book in the form of a pantomime.

Students at St Mary's School for Girls, in Lexden Road, worked together to produce an adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island.

Girls from Year 7 to Year 11 and staff from all departments put on a performance packed with adventure, emotion and humour.

School principal Nicola Griffiths said: “I wanted to send my congratulations to the students and staff involved in the senior school production of Treasure Island.

"The hard work put into the performances and technical support behind the scenes was evident - I was extremely impressed.

"Over the four shows, the girls displayed their talent brilliantly. It was wonderful to see such strong performances from students as young as 11."

Audiences made up of proud parents, grandparents and siblings, along with lower school pupils and girls registered to join the school next year, were thrilled to see the budding actors perform.

Isla and Isabel, in Year 10, performed as Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver, and head girl Maya encouraged plenty of audience participation as Dame Dolly Hawkins.

The Spirit Guardian of the Oceans was played by Year 11's Kaylo and pantomime baddie Serpentina was played by Year 10's Eadie.
